Saddle Stitch - Modern

achieve beautiful stitching to enhance your handmade items

The modern style of stitching is a slight step away from the traditional style.
Here, new tools are employed that fully penetrate the leather doing the job of the awl.
Whilst the hole produced is not suitable for a working seam, it is more than suitable, if not more so for leather goods such as bags, cases, belts, wallets and other leather accessories.

Greater versatility is now available as a result, with many irons being capable of accommodating up to five different thread sizes reducing the need for many irons.
This style of iron still needs practice, but a complete novice is able to achieve a credible saddle stitch in just a day.

This style of stitching is not suitable for Saddlery, Bridle or Harness work, but is ideal for most other leather goods.

Course Content
During the course, you will be introduced to the new irons, how they work and what you are looking for when buying them.
You will learn how to use the irons to mark your holes to ensure consistency in your work.
