Level 2 (Foundational)

This is a foundational level and is intended as the starting point for students who are able to attend the courses here in the Workshop.

Those who attain Level 2 will be able to show accurate Foundational level skills in measuring, marking, cutting, stitching and edge dressing making them competent at basic or simple makes in leatherwork such as card holders, Notebook Covers Flat Pouches etc.

There are 8 Modules within Level 2 to be covered and three pieces of coursework expected.

Two of the pieces of will need to be submitted for assessment before the applicant will be invited to take the final assessment and observed build, which will be held over a full day.

There are two paths to this accreditation, the short course which will involve five days training here in the workshop, one day per month, plus one further full day for the assessment.

The modules will be used to deliver content and are spaced to allow students enough time to allow for sufficient practice to achieve the level required to take the assessment.

Armitage Leather Beginner Course

There are two paths to this accreditation:

The Short Course is  for established leatherworkers. This involves five days group training here in the workshop, one day per month, plus one further full day for the assessment.

The modules will be used to deliver content and are spaced to allow students enough time to allow sufficient practice, to achieve the level required to take the assessment.
It is expected that students taking this course will have their own tool set and workshop space.
The short course is aimed towards established leatherworkers with at least 12 months experience.

The Extended Course is designed for those leatherworkers who are just starting out and require a more detailed approach.
This involves fourteen days training here in the workshop, one day per month, plus one day for the assessment. Each module is broken down into simple parts, with full instruction given on the projects.

Whilst it is not expected at the outset that students will have a complete tool set, it is advisable that they have sufficient tools to enable independent practice, as workshop time will be aimed at instruction and not practice.
A simple tool list will be provided if required.

A 45 minute written exam under exam conditions.
An observed project to be completed within 3½ hours.
A Practical Skills test to reflect the content within the Five Modules.
