Pouch Making Group Course
A Full Day In The Workshop With Nigel
Learning How to make a Pouch
Pouches are an awesome subject in Leatherwork, they can accommodate anything from Camera Lenses to Car Keys, Fire Lighting Kits to Medical Equipment.
But… Not only is a pouch useful as a stand alone item, it is also a prelude to Bag Making.
This is an ideal course to take if bag making is something you are curious about and wish to start.
Making any item from scratch in just a day on a course is an ambitious undertaking.
Bag Making is a massive subject and very labour intensive, to assist with this, the pouch, a smaller and more achievable item, has been selected as the vehicle to deliver the course.
After all, almost all of the skills required to make a bag, are the ones needed to make a pouch, making it an excellent subject for pouch and bag makers alike.
The course will be a combination of supplied materials which have been prepared ahead of time and a delivery of skills and technique lessons.
During the course we will cover the following skills and techniques using Discussion, Demonstration and Practice:
Tool Selection and Use
Design
Measuring for an item
Template Making
Leather Selection
Stitch Marking and Stitching
Creasing
Bevelling
Edge Dressing
Hardware

9am - 4pm
At the end of the course, you will have a small pouch to take home. Some of the processes you will have been assisted with, some you will have undertaken yourself, but, you will have a clear understanding of the processes involved.
The completion of the pouch is dependant on your skillset and ability during the day.
Who is this course for?
This course will be well suited to those early in their leatherworking journey who have some practical experience and wish to expand their skillset.
Having a working knowledge of the core skills would be an advantage, that is not to say you have to be good at them, we can certainly help you polish those whilst you are here.
These are: Measuring, Template Making, Cutting, Stitching and Dressing.
Whilst a Beginner would be made more than welcome, the course will be at a pace aimed at those who have already had some experience and we would not want you to feel left behind.
